Community Work

Quiz & Quill

This is Otterbein University's student-run literary magazine. I took over as faculty advisor in the Fall of 2019, the start of the magazine's 101st year.

As faculty advisor, my goal is to empower students to lead themselves and to make their own decisions about the content they wish to include in the magazine.

Otterbein Playwrights Collective

I began this initiative in 2019 with the help of Joe Bishara at the Abbey Theater of Dublin, OH. Joe and I met when he directed the first staged reading of Voice of the Net. He and I discovered a shared love of educating young artists, so we began work on the Otterbein Playwrights Collective.

The initiative pairs Otterbein student playwrights with Central Ohio actors and directors, most of whom are in high school or college. The actors and directors are usually students of Joe and/or the Abbey.

Each playwright works collaboratively with their team through a very quick new-work process  that culminates in a fully staged/teched production for each script.

Joe and I act as overall producers together. Additionally, he serves as a mentor and consultant for the actors and director while I serve as a mentor and script advisor for the playwrights.

MadLab Young Writers Workshop

As a Columbus-based theatre company, MadLab has been producing new works for years. As a part of their mission, they provide this educational initiative for high-school playwrights. I've been serving as an individual mentor since 2018.
